Happy Halloween!

October 31, 2008

First, my cookie experiment from last night.

#1 – royal icing is really hard to work with

#2 – icing cookies is way too time-consuming and tedious!

#3 – I really sucked!

So, I decided to alter the plan… jam sandwich cookies!

Now, on to today. Had a fairly chill day at work because we went to my director’s new house for lunch. And I didn’t go back to work after that! 🙂 I didn’t feel the best throughout the rest of the afternoon, though. Could have been the vanilla cupcake at 11, big lunch (salad, lasagna), the wine or the cake! I went to the grocery store and browsed for some shoes on my way there and way back.

Graham and I went for a great 8.3k run around 6:30 – saw some pumpkins and very cute kids! The weather was beautiful, so it was a really nice run.

Dinner…

Marlin, baguette and salad, with fish cutlery! Graham and I watched 40 Year Old Virgin – our first film from our free 1-month test of zip.ca. It was funny, but seemed long.

Hope everyone had a great evening!

2 day recap

October 30, 2008

Ok, where do we begin?!

The news: Graham is moving to Sarnia, Ontario for work. His current position is being eliminated, but he applied for a promotion and got it! It means that he will live there during the week and come home on weekends. It will be a big change, but it’s a good career opportunity. His job will be “Process Engineer” and he will learn lots. It’s going to be weird, but everything will turn out ok.

I’ve mentioned before that I work in the financial industry and my company is having tough times, too. I still have my job, so I can be thankful for that. It’s just such a topsy-turvy time…

Yesterday was an exhausting day… at work for before 7, left around 5:15, home to prepare dinner with Graham, friends for dinner, work from when they left around 9:15 til midnight… ay ay aye! I was zonked at the end of the night!

For dinner, we had a Czech meal – schnitzel, potatoes, shopsky salad, Pilsner Urquell beer. For dessert, our friends brought mini-desserts (not Czech, but very tasty!). No pictures – sorry!

Tonight, we both had left-overs… my dinner is really boring, but here it is:

That is left-over sauce from Sunday and shopsky salad.

Tomorrow, my department is going to our director’s new house for lunch – I don’t think we have to go back to work after that!

I promise to have long, happy posts this weekend, full of pictures! (am making cookies now, so will have some of those!) Night!

No time!

October 30, 2008

Sorry all! I promise a post and then can’t deliver!

Yesterday was crazy!

I will have a long, detailed post tonight!

See ya then! 🙂

Times they are a changin’

October 28, 2008

But I can’t say anything! We are going to have a big change in our life, but I am superstitious, so will wait to tell you when it’s official tomorrow.

And, I can’t tell you about dinner, either. I’ll be able to tell you that tomorrow, too.

Come back then! 🙂

1 down, 4 to go

October 27, 2008

‘Til the weekend, that is! I had a very busy day, but managed to get in a run after work. My legs cooperated, so I did about 32 minutes on the treadmill. Speedy, but just enough to get me going.

Graham and I made dinner together – shrimp and rice. These pictures don’t do it justice! I told Graham that he could do a guest post, but he just laughed. He made the shrimp part, while I was making more pear muffins for Graham to take to work.

I’m watching Dancing with the Stars tonight and Graham is prepping law school stuff. Typical night here! I’m going to make sure to get in some reading because my book is getting so intense!

Title…?

October 26, 2008

I don’t know what to call this post! Normally I can think of the name right away, but today I am at a loss…

This afternoon, we went out to Mississauga and saw my mum & sister and Graham’s mum, sister & baby. The most eventful part of our afternoon was when we rescued a dog from the middle of the road! After awhile, Graham was able to pick it up and as I drove the car back to my parents and he walked there so we could use the phone, he came across a dog walker who knew this dog – he was able to return it. But… they weren’t even grateful! He said they were weird. If my dog got out, I would be so grateful!!!

We then ran into our friend’s parents at the grocery store and it was nice catching up with them.

For dinner, I made the sausage pasta recipe from Food & Drink. Should link back to the recipe, but I am too lazy…

Oh, here’s my next project…

Graham’s sister has all this amazing fabric, so I’m going to make an ottoman slipcover. Stay tuned!

Happy Sunday night…!

Pear-ific

October 26, 2008

Happy Sunday!

But, back to yesterday first… we had a very productive afternoon at home (cleaned a little, put summer clothes in storage and got out the winter stuff, etc…) before Graham’s old roommate and his girlfriend came over, and Graham’s mum too. She was coming to drop some things off and they happened to all arrive at the same time. Graham’s mum and his old roommate get along really well, so we all chatted for awhile. I made these muffins for them to take on their car ride back to Ottawa…

We have tonnes of pears to use up and Graham’s mum bought more! I really liked the fact that the pear was grated – every bite tasted so good, and it’s a nice change from chunks. I did half all-purpose and half whole-wheat flour, which was a great combo. Everyone thought they were tasty. We gave them some to take in the car, too.

Next it was on to dinner. The four of us went to Swiss Chalet – quick, tasty and reasonable. We had a really nice time, chatting and laughing. They needed to get back to Ottawa, so we were home around 9. I watched Lipstick Jungle (love, love, love the characters on that show!) and Graham looked up Land Rovers on the internet all night.

Now, today. We had… waffles with pears for breakfast. Yup, gotta use up those pears!

I put the caramelized pears on my plate after the photo. I also had an extra quarter.

Graham’s just getting showered and ready for the day now (wrote a really long email to his friend in Belgium), so I’m blogging and watching Thursday’s episode of CSI. We might go visit our mothers this afternoon (dads are both busy, so mothers are alone… we are good kids, aren’t we?!?) or might also go for a hike. The weather forecast does say it’s going to rain, though…

Anyway, hope you have a great Sunday! See you later!

Back at it

October 25, 2008

Sorry ’bout that! Here is my 24 hour recap:

Friday after work
We tried to go for a run, but I was having some leg pains. We probably walked 3k, ran 3k. I don’t really know what was wrong, but I just couldn’t do it!
Graham wanted oysters and fries for dinner, but I wanted a little more substance – had a leftover piece of chicken, about 10 fries, 3 oysters and salad.

A look at the oysters…

(Yes, we shared a bottle of white wine… the entire bottle!)

Saturday Breakfast
We put some bread out last night to stale up [is that a term?], so that we could have french toast today…

Latte art (sort of)

We then went out to Wal-Mart [our toaster was recalled due to faulty elements], the Beer Store [returns and a case of DAB] and Ikea [frames for above the sofa and new cushion covers].

Saturday Lunch
Suffice it to say, we were both starving and crabby by 1:30. We had leftover chicken and some brussels sprouts, with a toasted whole wheat english muffin on the side [not in the photo].

A look at our little pumpkins too!

Graham’s university roommate is stopping in around 5:30, on his way back to Ottawa, so I think we’ll hang around here for the rest of the afternoon. I’m going to catch up on my blogs and cross a few more things off my to-do list… maybe watch some of my PRV’d shows too!

See ya later!

No pics…

October 23, 2008

Sorry, loyal blog readers, you’ll get nothing from me tonight. I went out after work for mojitos and tapas with my colleagues. I’m home now, enjoying tea and a piece of peach bread, while Graham watches Top Gear.

Happy almost Friday! Back tomorrow with photos and hopefully a workout!
