2 day recap

October 30, 2008

Ok, where do we begin?!

The news: Graham is moving to Sarnia, Ontario for work. His current position is being eliminated, but he applied for a promotion and got it! It means that he will live there during the week and come home on weekends. It will be a big change, but it’s a good career opportunity. His job will be “Process Engineer” and he will learn lots. It’s going to be weird, but everything will turn out ok.

I’ve mentioned before that I work in the financial industry and my company is having tough times, too. I still have my job, so I can be thankful for that. It’s just such a topsy-turvy time…

Yesterday was an exhausting day… at work for before 7, left around 5:15, home to prepare dinner with Graham, friends for dinner, work from when they left around 9:15 til midnight… ay ay aye! I was zonked at the end of the night!

For dinner, we had a Czech meal – schnitzel, potatoes, shopsky salad, Pilsner Urquell beer. For dessert, our friends brought mini-desserts (not Czech, but very tasty!). No pictures – sorry!

Tonight, we both had left-overs… my dinner is really boring, but here it is:

That is left-over sauce from Sunday and shopsky salad.

Tomorrow, my department is going to our director’s new house for lunch – I don’t think we have to go back to work after that!

I promise to have long, happy posts this weekend, full of pictures! (am making cookies now, so will have some of those!) Night!

Happy weekend!

Last night, Graham and I were going to have fish, but decided on PIZZA instead!

My half was the pepperoni half and Graham’s was the extra cheese and olives. I ate three of four on my side. Here’s another fun Graham fact: he likes to say he doesn’t eat meat on Fridays. This comes from his dad, pretty much, who isn’t really Catholic but decided that they would always eat fish on Fridays. So, that’s what Graham grew up doing. Now, I can sometimes twist his arm to eat Swiss Chalet, and if we were invited somewhere for dinner, he would have whatever was being served. But, he generally goes meat-free on Fridays. It’s funny, too, because I tried to get him to eat my leftover pepperoni piece, but he kept saying no to it – but he says it with this little smirk. Like he knows he’s being difficult.

Oh, we had beer too. Yum. The movie Graham picked was one he’d PVR’d – Heros of Telemark. As far as movies like that go, it was not bad.

On to today!

Crepes for breakfast…

I had my four filled with slightly softened pears.

I haven’t really talked about this much, but tomorrow is our Half Marathon! I’m getting really excited. It starts from near our house, actually, then goes all the way downtown. My mum is going to come watch and since we’re also running with Graham’s brother in law, his sister and their kids are coming too. Should be lots of fun.

We don’t know what we’re up to yet today, so I’ll probably post later. Have a great Saturday!

Two of a kind

September 27, 2008

So, picking up where we left off… the birthday party was great fun – for the kids at least! There were at least 15 of them, jumping in the bouncy castle, running around, eating, laughing. We were the only non-parents there. For lunch, I had half a burger, half a corn, chips (yum!), a few veggies, and a few crackers with hummus. Then cake. Delicious lunch!

We got home around four. I putzed around, then went over to the mall. Banana Republic was having a 30% off sale and I got a sweater, then looked around Chapters.

While at the mall, I got a bottle of Czechvar. It’s got a really cool story – read about it here!  The town of Budvar is right near Graham’s aunt’s house in the Czech Republic. We sat down to dinner around 8, with our Czechvar!

The big one and the little one! Guess who…

And, here was dinner – left overs from Thursday night (stew) and Friday night (pasta – but just for Graham).

Guess again!

Here is Graham, eating the salad straight from the bowl!

Stay tuned for another post from me soon… I did a little snacking after dinner. You’ll see…

Monday blues

September 22, 2008

Well, it actually wasn’t that bad after all. I had a long day today – got home around 6:30, and then Graham came in about a minute later. I had bought bok choy and bean sprouts for stir-fry, so we threw that together. Check this out!

We had brown rice, chicken, carrots, onions, garlic, bean sprouts and bok choy. Tasty and healthy! And, there are two servings left for Graham’s lunch too! That makes it much easier for me in the morning. Oh, and here is my little beer!

I had about a quarter of Graham’s bottle, in this little glass! Just the perfect amount for me.

So, I’m relaxing in front of the TV, watching… Dancing with the Stars! I love it! Graham is distressed (“What?? You’re watching that for two hours??”), but he’s at the table, studying. I’m enjoying the show, tea and peach bread.

I am going for piece #2 for sure – maybe in hour #2! I’ve packed some up for Graham to take to work tomorrow. If it stayed around here, I would eat every single crumb. No joke.

PS – This bread also looks amazing! I haven’t yet baked anything from 101 Cookbooks, but this is now bookmarked. At this rate, I’ll need to run 17.3k every day! 🙂
