Night in

November 1, 2008

Evening, ladies and gents! Here is my Saturday run-down…

For breakfast, we had French Toast. Yes, same as last weekend. But it was tasty!

That’s two and a half pieces of tastiness!

Also this morning, I watched CSI, the start of Lipstick Jungle and washed and dried two loads of clothes. Oh, and a little cleaning.

Around 1:30, we went downtown to meet Graham’s cousins for lunch. They’re in town for the weekend. We went out for a very tasty meal – I had a burger (ate 3/4) that came with coleslaw. I also snagged some of Graham’s fries.

After that, we went over to his sister’s house. The other sister had just arrived as well, so we played with all the kids, ate some candy… it was nice!

I tried to run on the treadmill in the building, but someone was already there. I went for a chilly 5k outside, by myself. Graham was[is] doing law school apps.

For dinner, we defrosted some spaghetti sauce and had that with a really yummy salad – lettuce with Craisins, feta and pumpkin seeds!

Gonna kick back with Lipstick Jungle and some candy. Night!

Me, myself and I

October 20, 2008

I had what can only be described as a miserable Monday. I don’t like complaining here because I don’t want to be the whining blogger. Today, though, was one of those days. I was at work from 7:45 til just before 6. It was crazy-busy, with a few fires along the way. Add to that my sore legs and a splitting headache. I never get sick… I don’t know if it’s related to the run, or just being run down.

Graham’s at his parents’ house tonight, so I am relaxing with Dancing with the Stars and the hot water bottle.

Two little BLTs

Pear cake (had a second small one)

I am still planning on posting the recipe, but not tonight. I’m going to just relax and see if I can keep my eyes open to read a little. Sorry for being so depressing – I’m really not normally like this, so when I am, I just feel like garbage.

Hope I’m back in better spirits (feeling better & less work stress) tomorrow. Sleep well!

Sarah alone = Sarah neurotic

September 20, 2008

Last night I most certainly had a snack!

And I most certainly had a second cookie! 🙂

While I was watching tv, the blinds on our big living room window were partially open. I’m just sitting there and suddenly a laser pointer is on the tv wall, moving around. I thought – hmm, very strange and weird. About 5 minutes later it happened again. I turned off the tv, turned off the lights, shut the blinds, then went back to the tv. I thought it was really weird, but I wasn’t all that freaked out. Until I went to bed, that is. Then, I started at the ceiling in fear! lol It was brutal! I fell asleep fairly quickly, thank goodness!

This morning, I woke up – fine, obviously! I went for a run, but because I was alone with no one to talk to, I thought about work the entire run. It was brutal! I couldn’t get my mind on anything else. This is where the blog title comes in – Sarah alone = Sarah neurotic!! Last night, with the laser pointer, then this morning and thinking of only work. So, I’ve tried to distract myself as much as possible. First, with breakfast.

Then, with the tv and computer.

I’m sitting at the table, with the tv turned towards me. And see the big picture window? That’s where the laser pointer was coming from, from the other building somewhere. Ok, I need to stop talking about that laser pointer!! I’m making myself sound crazy!!

One last note – I had tea with my breakfast this morning. That is because I don’t really know how to work our sophisticated coffee system. This is what it looks like:

See, I had the milk container and my cup and saucer all ready. But then I realized that I haven’t watched Graham use the new grinder (it’s the replacement one that we got on Wednesday). And after that, I was just too lazy to figure it out! So, it was tea instead. (By the way – the cappuccino maker is Graham’s most prized possession! He is coffee obsessed!)

Now I am off to Yorkdale to try and beat the crowds (though it’s a little later than I would have liked – will already be busy, I’m sure), then to the Beer Store for bottle returns, to the store for groceries and toiletries, etc… Then I’ll see! I’ve got to stop at my parents before the engagement party tonight, so I might do a little baking and cooking this afternoon, or watch a movie. See you for lunch!

Twist on a burger

September 17, 2008

Finally – photos for you!

This morning, for breakfast, I had Quaker instant oatmeal (2 packages of apple cinnamon), as well as a latte. I actually really enjoyed the instant oatmeal, although I would say that it doesn’t get as hot as real oats. I tried to take a photo of my breakfast, but my camera wouldn’t turn on. I was getting really worried, because I thought the battery was charged. I charged it after work, and now it works just fine.

So, on to dinner!

Apple-Cheddar Turkey Burgers
Rachael Ray – September

Serves 4

2 lbs ground turkey breast
4 scallions, finely chopped **I used celery, for crunch
1/2c. chopped flat leafed parsley
1 tbsp. grill seasoning **I used Old Bay
1 tsp. poultry seasoning **I added salt and pepper instead
2 tbsp. olive oil
1 apple, such as granny smith, cut into 12 slices
8 slices extra sharp cheddar cheese
1/4 c. whole berry cranberry sauce
2 tbsp. grainy mustard
4 sandwich-size english muffins, split and toasted
8 leaves red- or green-leaf lettuce

1. In a bowl, combine the turkey, scallions, parsley, grill seasoning and poultry seasoning. Form into 4 patties, pressing your thumb into the centre of each to prevent it from bulging.
2. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the patties and cook for 6 minutes on each side for medium. Top each with 3 apple slices and 2 cheese slices, tent the pan with foil and cook until the cheese melts, 1-2 minutes.
3. In a small bowl, mix together the cranberry sauce and mustard; slather on the muffin tops. Pile 2 lettuce leaves on each muffin bottom, top with the patties and set the muffin tops into place.

On the side, we had a spinach salad with oranges, apple cubes and slivered almonds. Sorry – I was so into the burger, I didn’t get a photo of the salad!

I’m watching Cash Cab now. I’ve never seen it before, but it’s really entertaining! I’m going to clean up a little, read my book and enjoy tea and the last brownie. Enjoy your evening!

Home on a Monday!

September 15, 2008

Well, not totally relaxing… I am working from home this morning. We have a team event this afternoon and evening, so I’m home for now. I’m driving with a colleague and we have to leave around 11.

I had a coffee with Graham this morning, and am now sitting down with my breakfast.

Better get to work! I probably won’t take any food photos today, but will post late tonight when I get home. Have a great day!

Quick dinner

September 8, 2008

It’s now 9pm… where did the night go!

Graham and I made homemade spaghetti sauce and that was his dinner, with leftover bow tie pasta from the market.

I had smoked salmon, celery and focaccia bread. Then, for desert, leftover peach tart and tea!

Am now ready to settle into my book… night!
