What have I been up to?

December 20, 2008

Dinner last night was quiet and tasty.

I took a photo of one assembled jam cookie for you to see. All the rest will be put together right before giving them.

Meh, not the best at all. The recipe was from the Martha Stewart Christmas special magazine. I won’t even bother posting it. I was disappointed.

This morning, I had French Toast. Three pieces. Yum.

Graham had an omelette, but I’m not a big fan of eggs.

We went out for errands, getting ready to have Graham’s parents and grandmother for dinner.

For lunch, we bought “Montreal” bagels. They were quite good – fairly close in taste to true Montreal bagels. I think I’ll get them again!

Back later with a dinner recap!

Believe it or not… this happened to me…

December 16, 2008

An admin assistant in our dept. (“Susie”) gave my name and a co-worker’s name to participate in a meeting regarding some changes that will be made to our part of the office. This morning was the call. There was also a Webex (basically a presentation hosted by someone, that you can see on your computer). My co-worker sent me a private message through Webex. I assumed that the message window was ONLY with my co-worker. A la Messenger. Um, not so much. I sent a snarky message back to my co-worker, saying ” “Susie” must secretly hate us, for giving our names to this meeting.” OH… YES… that was sent to the entire meeting. Thank goodness it was just me, my co-worker, the meeting host (who works in the States and I will have no contact with her, ever) and two vendors (will never have contact with them, either). But suffice it to say, I was mortified. So, to all my friends out there: make sure you are not sending sarcastic comments to THE ENTIRE MEETING.

Back to the food…

After my mortifying moment this morning and an utter CRISIS on that project that JUST FINISHED last week, I decided I deserved French Toast for dinner.

Yup, that’s three pieces. And I had another clementine. Also some candy cane ice cream.

Ayayaye… I hope I sleep through the night. I feel really, really stressed. Can’t wait til Friday… I have the day off and Graham comes home for three weeks.

Oh – I promised you a post about our upcoming trip, right? Ok, tomorrow. I just want to watch Sarah’s House and then get into bed… night.

Sunday evening, again

November 16, 2008

I’m back! Wow, it’s been a busy few days

Got home from work and started on my ottoman project. I cut the fabric and pinned it to size. Graham called to say he would be late, so I had a snack to tide me over.

Yum! Also had some w.w. chips.

I ran to the store for dinner and then Graham was home sometime around 8.

It was catfish with a lemon sauce – yum! I had a second roll and bought Graham the potato wedges from the prepared foods counter at Loblaws.

Graham slept in til about 9:30 and when he got up, we had waffles…

I did have the other half of the banana too.

We’d decided to make a bunch of freezer meals, so that Graham doesn’t have to do much cooking during the week. After deciding on our recipes, we went down to the St. Lawrence Market to get the meat. You can get cuts there not found at the grocery store, for great prices. We got chuck and pork chops. We had to go to Longo’s too, for the rest.

Once home, we set about cooking! Because of the christening today, we had to run to Yorkdale for the gift. Wow, what a production that was. A half-hour just to get out of the parking lot. It was insane. We had friends coming for dinner and still had stuff to do!

In the end, we got it all done and had a great meal – bourguinon, salad, bread, wine. Great food and even better company. Sorry, no photos!

We had to resume our cooking once they left. Here is what we made:

  • Beef Bourguignon (12 meals, but ate 4)
  • Braised Chicken (8 meals)
  • Meat Loaf (8 meals)
  • Tuna Casserole (8 meals)
  • Butternut Squash Soup (6 meals)
  • Pork Chops (* did not cook, but will make 6 meals)

That’s 48 meals! Ay ay aye, lots of cooking! But, it went well and now we have lots of tasty food. In terms of cost, we spent about $160 for everything, plus a bunch of other needed items, like oatmeal, fruit and veggies, hors d’oeuvres for dinner, etc… We think it breaks out to an average of less than $3 a meal.

Up at 7:30 this morning… Graham’s nephew was being christened today and he is the godfather! We had french toast for breakfast, with left over french bread from last night.

After church, about 20 family and friends were back at Graham’s parents’ house for lunch. I had a ham and swiss sandwich on a w.w. roll, a few pieces of smoked salmon and some desserts.

After Graham’s parents’, we went to my parents’ house. We hung out with my sister a little, did some Wii Fit, then chatted with my mum when she came back from shopping.

Around 5:45, we each went our separate ways – me back to the apartment, Graham to Sarnia. I have laundry in right now and will catch up on my blog reading. I’ve got Lipstick Jungle and Amazing Race also on the agenda tonight. I’m a little sad and wish we could be together – especially after a jam-packed weekend… 😦

Night in

November 1, 2008

Evening, ladies and gents! Here is my Saturday run-down…

For breakfast, we had French Toast. Yes, same as last weekend. But it was tasty!

That’s two and a half pieces of tastiness!

Also this morning, I watched CSI, the start of Lipstick Jungle and washed and dried two loads of clothes. Oh, and a little cleaning.

Around 1:30, we went downtown to meet Graham’s cousins for lunch. They’re in town for the weekend. We went out for a very tasty meal – I had a burger (ate 3/4) that came with coleslaw. I also snagged some of Graham’s fries.

After that, we went over to his sister’s house. The other sister had just arrived as well, so we played with all the kids, ate some candy… it was nice!

I tried to run on the treadmill in the building, but someone was already there. I went for a chilly 5k outside, by myself. Graham was[is] doing law school apps.

For dinner, we defrosted some spaghetti sauce and had that with a really yummy salad – lettuce with Craisins, feta and pumpkin seeds!

Gonna kick back with Lipstick Jungle and some candy. Night!

Back at it

October 25, 2008

Sorry ’bout that! Here is my 24 hour recap:

Friday after work
We tried to go for a run, but I was having some leg pains. We probably walked 3k, ran 3k. I don’t really know what was wrong, but I just couldn’t do it!
Graham wanted oysters and fries for dinner, but I wanted a little more substance – had a leftover piece of chicken, about 10 fries, 3 oysters and salad.

A look at the oysters…

(Yes, we shared a bottle of white wine… the entire bottle!)

Saturday Breakfast
We put some bread out last night to stale up [is that a term?], so that we could have french toast today…

Latte art (sort of)

We then went out to Wal-Mart [our toaster was recalled due to faulty elements], the Beer Store [returns and a case of DAB] and Ikea [frames for above the sofa and new cushion covers].

Saturday Lunch
Suffice it to say, we were both starving and crabby by 1:30. We had leftover chicken and some brussels sprouts, with a toasted whole wheat english muffin on the side [not in the photo].

A look at our little pumpkins too!

Graham’s university roommate is stopping in around 5:30, on his way back to Ottawa, so I think we’ll hang around here for the rest of the afternoon. I’m going to catch up on my blogs and cross a few more things off my to-do list… maybe watch some of my PRV’d shows too!

See ya later!

My weekend

October 5, 2008

Sorry for this short hiatus! We had a lot going on over the past 24+ hours.

Where did I leave off…

Saturday lunch

Next, I went looking in some stores, got Starbucks, took my sewing machine in, picked up Graham, went to Le Baron, and then came home. The coffee left me really jittery, so I had food right away when we were home. Next was a 6k – didn’t feel so hot, at all. My hip, my leg, my stomach, my jittery self!

We went to Graham’s sister’s house for dinner – had Korean BBQ. Very tasty! We went by City Hall to see the Nuit Blanche display on the way home. It was pretty cool!

Today, we were supposed to do 20k, but neither of us were in 100% mental or physical shape. We did 10k instead.

Breakfast was french toast (photo mid-meal!)…

And coffee.

Up for the afternoon?

Raiding Graham’s parent’s vegetable and herb garden.
Grocery shopping & laundry.
Apple picking with his dad, his sister, her husband and their kids.
Dinner with the above group.

Tomorrow? Monday… no… really don’t want to think about that. Hope you had a great weekend, full of fun!

24 hour recap

September 21, 2008

Hello loyal readers. Sorry I was MIA yesterday, but I will recap my day for you now!

I had great success at Yorkdale, getting a blazer, a sweater and a jacket from Banana Republic and RW & Co. I was super-tired and hungry towards the end, though, so I came home and made a lightening-fast lunch…

I also had a cookie and a gummy worm! 🙂

I putzed around all afternoon, going to Loblaws for some fruit, fixing up my iPod, etc… I was sort of lazy and unmotivated – but also had a slight headache. While fixing my iPod, I had some TJ trail mix with some Life sprinkled in.

Around 5, I left for the housewarming/engagement party in Mississauga. Of my 7 university housemates, 3 are engaged! 7 of us were there (one lives in Ottawa) and it was great seeing (almost) everyone together. We had a tour of the apt. but the party was in the party room, so there was lots of space to sit and very good food too! I had: about 20 yellow and blue tortilla chips, about 4 small pieces of baguette with hummus, corn on the cob, a hamburger, salad and piece of baklava. Sorry, no pictures at all! It was such a nice night – thinking of everyone is making me smile! I swung by my parents after – my sister wanted the next book in the Twilight series, so I dropped that off, picked up my mail and hung around a little. I was home around 10:30, I think and read for a little, but fell asleep very quickly.

Now, on to today!! 17.3km run!! I was so happy and proud of myself when I was finished. I felt great the entire time, except for at about the 14 mark. I just stopped and walked for about 30 seconds – had a water break because I find it strange to drink and run – then picked it up again all the way home! I was efficient and got the laundry in, over to Starbucks for coffee (tall Bold – felt like just coffee today) and then made my breakfast!

Yippee for french toast!

I am in a cleaning mood – kitchen’s done, sheets are changed… next I have to put stuff away/organize a little. Everything is a little to cluttered right now. Other than that? Groceries, baking, shopping? Reading, for sure, and actually a little computer work to do… 😦 Not too much – should only take half an hour, but it’s something I’ve been putting off at work, so should just get it done.

Have a relaxing Sunday!

PS – I love smitten kitchen‘s blog – I’ve had 100% success with her recipes and the photos are just beautiful. Well, I just discovered that you can actually buy them here! What a cool idea!
